Ring bearers, flower girls at Thornewood Castle wedding

Ring bearers, flower girls at Thornewood Castle wedding

Wrangling this pack of five flower girls and ring bearers wasn't as hard as it could have been, and in fact the younger children were very cooperative, and gave me some terrific smiles in a few other photos. It was the oldest boy who refused to crack a smile, and someone behind me took it as a challenge to coax that smile out of him. The effort was seemingly all for naught, except that I caught this photo of the other kids looking up at him that was better than all the more traditional ones! The setting is just inside the shelter of the front porch of Thornewood Castle in Lakewood, near Tacoma. The day was drizzly, but this porch provided both shelter from the rain and a photogenic setting with plenty of soft light on everyone's faces. This photo won an award in a wedding photography competition held by the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA).
